My name is Marlene, and I work with traditional Welsh blankets, a craft rooted deeply in our heritage. Each piece I make carries the legacy of generations past, celebrating timeless patterns, quality craftsmanship, and the enduring spirit of Wales.

How did you start your business?

Through support of family with a lot of hard work.

How did you choose the name of your business?

DInefwr is a medieval name for the area we live in, in Wales.

What or who inspires your products?

I was inspired by the rich heritage of Welsh weaving and the stories held in every thread. Growing up surrounded by traditional patterns and the warmth of wool, I felt a strong pull to keep these time-honoured skills alive.

What does a typical day look like?

Working with others, discussing Welsh Blankets with customers, answering phone calls, designing.

What do you enjoy most about the creative process?

There’s a deep satisfaction in knowing I’m continuing a craft that has been practiced for generations, yet each blanket I make has its own character.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a small business owner?

As a small business, I also wear many hats—from maker to marketer to customer service—which can be demanding. But these challenges are part of the journey, and they make every finished piece, and every connection with a customer, all the more meaningful.

What is your hero product or one that means the most to you and why?

The traditional Welsh Blanket due to its historical value, tradition and sustainable nature.

What tip (or tips) would you give anyone looking to start a small creative business?

Look at the big picture, are you committed? Can you persevere? Do you have a good idea which can be executed well?
