Jewellery Cave is a fourth-generation family jewellers, run by a father and daughter duo who are passionate about what they do.
‘We love designing bespoke pieces and giving pre-loved jewellery a new lease of life—there’s something special about seeing old treasures shine again.’
Who or what inspires you and your products?
We’re inspired by the stories behind each piece—whether it’s designing something bespoke to celebrate a milestone or restoring a pre-loved item with history and character. Our customers, their stories, and the craftsmanship passed down through four generations all influence what we create.
When did you start your business?
Founded in 1939 by Jonathan’s grandfather, our family jewellery business has passed through four generations. Jonathan joined in 1979, and today runs the business alongside his daughter Rebecca.
‘It’s always been in my blood—I spent my summers at the workbench and knew I’d follow in my father’s footsteps one day.’
How did you choose the name of your business?
We wanted a name that felt unique and a little magical—somewhere you could discover hidden treasures. Plus if you come to our shop, you’ll see it somewhat represents a cave!
Where do you make your products?
All our products are made in our factory in Finchley, North London.
What do you enjoy most about the creative process?
I love that every customer brings a different idea—it keeps things fresh and exciting. And it’s great to have the freedom to create pieces for our own collection where I can just follow my own style and have fun with it.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a small business owner?
The biggest challenge has been the soaring gold prices. Since we’re a small business making bespoke, one-of-a-kind pieces—not mass-producing hundreds of the same item—our costs go up, and unfortunately, so do our prices. It’s a tough balance, but quality and craftsmanship always come first.
What does a typical day look like?
I like to start my day early—usually in the office around 6am—before anyone else arrives. That’s when I catch up on emails, plan the day ahead, and enjoy my morning coffee. Then I usually have a chat with our in-house CAD designer to check progress and get inspired. After that, I let our factory know what jobs need doing.
The rest of the day is full of appointments—whether it’s for an engagement ring, a push present, or redesigning a piece. No two days are the same, but one thing’s for sure: there are never enough hours to get everything done!
What tip (or tips) would you give anyone looking to start a small creative business?
My biggest tip would be to stay passionate and patient—building a creative business takes time and dedication. Also, really listen to your customers and be flexible, because every project is different. And don’t be afraid to put your own unique touch on things—that’s what will set you apart.
