Oyeyinka holds a degree in Chemistry, Diploma in Cosmetic Science and is a certified Level 4 Skin Therapist. Our product line uses safe, natural ingredients and clinically proven formulations to address skin concerns – acne, ageing and hyperpigmentation.
How did you start your business?
I started with 3 products using a Private Label Manufacturer in UK financed from my personal savings.
How did you choose the name of your business?
The “Ray” is the initials on my children’s names and it symbolises sunlight – energy of nature while “Essence” refers to fundamental nature. The name captures the essence of the brand.
What or who inspires your products?
My products are inspired by my personal journey with acne and my passion for skin health to help others achieve the skin to feel confident in.
What does a typical day look like?
Typical working day entails anwering emails, posting on social media platforms to promote the brand, interacting with customers on WhatApp and researching new active ingredients.
What do you enjoy most about the creative process?
The Formulation – conceptualisation, exploring new natural ingredients, selecting the right combination of actives, and science behind combining ingredients to achieve specific skin benefits with the right texture and stability.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a small business owner?
Marketing and Promoting my products. I have little or no experience in marketing especially social media platforms.
What is your hero product or one that means the most to you and why?
Hero Product is Intense Barrier Repair Cream due to its effective formulation, benefits and great reviews from clients. It was carefully formulated with passion and excited with the result.
What tip (or tips) would you give anyone looking to start a small creative business?
Start small, begin with a minimal viable product and gradually expand. Identify your target client and design your products to meet their needs. Be focused, adaptable and resilient.
