I’m Meg, the maker behind The Happy Bowl Co. I create artisan muesli, granola and porridge blends that celebrate nourishing, plant-based ingredients with bold, uplifting flavours. Each small batch is a thoughtful mix of creativity and nourishment, made with intention and guaranteed to take you to your happy place.

How did you start your business?

I started The Happy Bowl Co from my kitchen after noticing that store-bought cereals loaded with sugar were affecting my gut health. I began experimenting with muesli, granola, and porridge blends in my very own kitchen that were nourishing and full of flavour. What started as a way to enjoy better breakfasts at home quickly grew into a small business, with each batch handcrafted to bring a little joy to other people’s mornings.

How did you choose the name of your business?

I was sat in my kitchen one morning while my little ones were enjoying their homemade chocolate granola. I was trying out business names when my eldest daughter said, “Mummy, this bowl makes me happy.” That simple moment inspired the name. It’s not flashy or quirky, just a straightforward adjective that captures that warm, joyful feeling of comfort and happiness.

Who or what inspires you and your products?

I’m driven by a passion for honest, good food and by the belief that how you start your day with the simple joys in life matters. Being intentional of what you put into your body truly changes how you feel, even if that means spending those two minutes in a store reading the labels on every package to know exactly what goes in. That awareness of flavour, quality, and how food makes you feel is at the heart of every blend I create.

What does a typical working day look like?

A typical working day can be very varied. Some days I’m in the kitchen early, preparing small batches of muesli, granola, and porridge. Other days are spent packing online orders, managing stock, handling admin, updating social media, marketing, and planning for upcoming events. The work can be unpredictable as online orders can arrive at any time, and busy days mean long hours to keep up with demand. It’s hard work, but incredibly rewarding to see people enjoying the blends I’ve created.

What do you enjoy most about the creative process?

What I love most about the creative process is that rush of energy when inspiration strikes. One night a new granola flavour came to me while I was in bed, so I grabbed a pen and scribbled it down. I couldn’t wait to test the recipe the next morning. It’s pure excitement every time.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a small business owner?

The biggest challenge I’ve faced as a small business owner is managing stock. Online orders can be unpredictable as you never know when one will drop in. Because everything is made in small batches, it’s hard to anticipate the inflow of orders. Slow market days can also be an issue; for example, due to the weather, I may be left with unsold stock. Since my products are made with 100% natural ingredients, they have a shorter shelf life, which makes stock management even more challenging. On busier days, I’m often working day and night to restock

What is your hero product or one that means the most to you and why?

I’m attached to every blend I create, but I think the Superfood Muesli, which inspired the granola as well means the most to me. It attracts a lot of attention and is one of our bestsellers, thanks to the vibrant forest green colour. It’s packed with spirulina, super gut-friendly, and is my husband’s go-to breakfast.

What tip (or tips) would you give anyone looking to start a small creative business?

The best time to start is now. Not the next hour, the next day, or next year, it’s now. Don’t wait for the perfect moment or all the answers. Just take the first step, trust your ideas and instincts and learn as you go.
